GamiFIN 2022 is coming to you wherever you are! We’re going fully online again
Dear GamiFIN Participants,
The call for posters, doctoral consortium applications and GamiFOREST is still open. The deadline is the 21st of February! Meanwhile, we are full steam ahead organising this year’s conference and we are looking forward to seeing you this April 26-29, however in a remote setting!
Although we hoped to host this year’s conference in a hybrid format and have many of you joining us here in Finland, unfortunately, the COVID situation still has not improved enough for us to go ahead with this plan. Our prime concern has been ensuring an equal opportunity for everyone to participate, interact and enjoy the conference and as the current situation still makes travel quite difficult for many we decided to put our efforts into improving the great online experience we have had during the last years and have one more online version of GamiFIN this year. We want GamiFIN to be an event that brings together gamification scholars from all over the world at all stages of their careers and we do not want to endanger the unity we have been able to experience in previous GamiFIN conferences.
After last years’ positive experiences, we are optimistic that we will have a blast again this year, not just in respect to holding academic presentations and discussions, but also for facilitating casual networking and a bit of fun as well.
In terms of conference fees, this year the entry to the conference will be free of charge for anyone contributing to the conference, including submitting authors (whether accepted or not) and presenters (incl. those of full papers, posters, abstract, doctoral consortium entries), peer reviewers of any submissions, PC members and UNITE consortium members. However, you are still required to register for the conference through our registration form (opening soon). The entry fee for the entire conference will be 50 EUR for regular visitors, 25 EUR for students and 15 EUR for students from middle and low income countries, as available here.
Please be informed of the following instructions:
- The conference will take place online (links will be sent to registered participants).
- Each participant should prepare to be able to participate by using a microphone, headphones and preferably a camera, as well as a stable internet connection.
- There will be the possibility to pretest the connection and equipment before the conference begins.
Check out the program draft!
Paper sessions: Paper presentations will be held in a traditional manner where author(s) have a designated slot in which they will present their paper, followed by a Q&A session. The estimated time slot for each paper will be 20 minutes. Presentation of papers is mandatory in order for the paper to be included in the conference proceedings publication.
Keynotes: Keynote sessions will be held through Zoom. This year’s speakers are Prof. Anton Nijholt, Prof. Vered Pnueli and Prof. Rita Orji.
Posters (SUBMISSIONS OPEN TILL FEBRUARY 21ST): Poster presentations will be held similarly to paper sessions (Zoom), but with shorter presentation slots. This means that the poster will be presented in 5 minutes to all conference participants, and will be followed by comments from the audience. Moreover, poster presenters will be able to provide .pdf files of the poster that will be made available to everyone, thereby providing the possibility to receive additional written feedback. Instructions for providing the .pdf will be sent later.
Doctoral consortium (SUBMISSIONS OPEN TILL FEBRUARY 21ST): The main function of a doctoral consortium is, commonly, to provide an entry point to a community of scholars and to facilitate a communal discussion of each piece of doctoral research, and the future academic career of the doctoral student. These discussions will also take place via Zoom and the instructions will be sent to the registered participants.
Workshops and Practitioners’ Panel: We will be hosting online workshops and an online practitioners panel with the topic “Highlights and hurdles of implementing gamification as a start-up for better living”. The interactive panel will take place via Zoom with an open Q&A session. Check out the panelist lineup here.
