GamiFOREST: A UNITE Symposium
April 29th, 2022
Online
The GamiFOREST: A UNITE Symposium, will take place on the last day of the conference, the 29th of April and is dedicated to the exploration of the role of gamification and playful technologies in mediating the human experience of forest areas and of nature in general.
The symposium is hosted in collaboration and as a part of the Academy of Finland Flagship competence center UNITE – Forest-Human-Machine Interplay, which aims at building resilience, redefining value networks and enabling meaningful experiences through the application of forest-based bio-economy know- how, geospatial technologies, and gamification.
The symposium will aim to generate fresh discussion and ideas around the topic and will feature both inspiring keynote speeches, and abstract/poster presentations (see submission guidelines below). The symposium will also offer the opportunity for networking and ideation around the topic of the symposium. This years’ keynotes will be Alenda Chang, Klaus Eisenack and Chris Sandbrook.
We welcome extended abstract submissions on gameful and ludic approaches to forests and nature in general. The submissions may be related to (but not limited to) the topics of the UNITE competence center:
- Innovative techniques to produce new data (i.e. sensors and intelligent algorithms; automatisation in forestry; forest data procurement)
- Agile knowledge creation from forest data (i.e. remote sensing, monitoring, interactions between trees and the environment)
- Gameful forest interaction for meaningful experiences and practices – authors working on this research topic can also submit their work as a full paper for the GamiFIN program
- Smart decision support for human action in space and time (i.e. science-based, smart solutions and tools, operations and logistics, multifunctional management)
The abstracts submitted for the symposium will not feature as part of the GamiFIN conference proceedings.
Submission guidelines:
Since UNITE is a multidisciplinary competence center, you may present at the symposium even if you research is not directly related to gamification but is associated to other topics of the project. To join us, please send us an extended abstract of your work, maximum 3 pages long, including the list of references. The extended abstract submission will go through a double-blind review process. After the notification of acceptance, you will receive specific instructions on preparing your presentation for the symposium, you may present the abstract as a short paper or in a poster format. Ideally the abstract provides an effective summary of your research, highlighting the context of a full academic paper (background, methods, results, data, discussion in brief), however you may also submit idea papers and work in progress reports.
Please submit your extended abstract in PDF-format!
Extended abstracts must conform to the following template: http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEUR-Template-1col.docx
