WORKSHOP 1: GamiFIN 2020 Workshop on gamifying sustainable consumption
Time: 1st of April, 2020
Place: Congress & Exhibition Centre Levi Summit
Register: With your normal registration to the conference ( maximum capacity for the workshop is 30 people).
Reducing carbon emissions is a major global challenge and one significant component in reducing global emissions is a change in consumer behavior. According to various studies 20-50% of consumers are interested or willing to alter their consumption behavior if that reduces their environmental impact. This workshop focuses on exploring (1) what kind of design issues there are for gamification for personal consumption management applications, and (2) what kind of gamification design concepts should be applied in encouraging sustainable consumption.
GamiFIN 2020 is proud to announce a cooperation with S-Group in hosting the workshop. S-Group is a large multi-business line Finnish retailer, with more than 1800 outlets in Finland. The consumer app developed by S-Group will function as an example for the discussions at the workshop. The workshops will bring together practical and academic expertise and through the knowledge and understanding of gamification, aim to bring forth new ideas on the topic of gamification and sustainable consumption.
Workshop chairs:
Dr. Kai Kuikkaniemi, S-group and Aalto University
MSc. MMA., MBA. Georgina Guillen, Tampere University
Call for participation:
Workshop capacity is 30 people and registration is done during the registration to the conference. WORKSHOP 2: GamiFIN 2020 Workshop: “Lumi: Designing Playful Winter XR Wearables with the Spirit of Levi”
Time: 1st of April, 2020
Place: Congress & Exhibition Centre Levi Summit
Register: With your normal registration to the conference (maximum capacity for the workshop is 20 people).
Snow is a playful substance: we can slide on it with skis or sleights, we can battle with snowballs or create snowmen and snow angels. Snowy cities, therefore, are always also playable cities – and Levi makes no exception.
But what would happen if we were to technologically augment snow? How extended reality technologies could transform our relationship with it and with the urban spaces around us?
In this workshop we will co-design some Playful Winter XR Wearables with the help of a very special guest: the Spirit of Levi itself! Using innovative participatory design methodologies (as well as ancient spirit-summoning techniques) and with the help of prototypes of novel technologies (and some ancient exoteric artifacts), Lumi intends to create a space of discussion and creativity where we can imagine together a playful future for Levi.
Workshop chairs:
Dr. Oğuz “Oz” Buruk, Tampere University
Dr. Mattia Thibault, Tampere University
Call for participation:
Workshop capacity is 20 people and registration is done during the registration to the conference. No design experience is required, but participants are expected to submit a brief bionote highlighting their competences and past experiences in the topics of design, gamification, wearables and urban spaces (please send it to mattia.thibault@tuni.fi).
NB: Part of the activity will take place outdoors. Please bring appropriate clothing and let us know if you have special needs regarding mobility or anything else.
